Electrical Walk Through FAQ's

Why do an electrical walk through?

Having an electrical walk through is usually done after your home is framed and before the batts and gib go in. This means we can personalise your electrical plan and save on costly fixes later. Of course, this also means we can make sure we put the right cables in the right places during pre-wire. During our walk through, we will go through your home room by room and discuss several things including positions of plugs, lights & switches as well as which switches will control which lights. This is also the time to discuss such things as an alarm, CCTV cameras, spa plugs, exterior lighting, and any smart home requirements you may have.

How long does a Walk Through take?

This varies dependent on requirements, as a rule we allow 2hours for a walk through

What do I need to bring to my Walk Through? Condensation

If you have any special requirements that aren’t covered in your specs with the building company eg pendants for your kitchen or some fancy lights for your front entrance, please do some research before you come and bring the specifications with you so we can make sure they conform with electrical standards and will fit in the space you are wanting them. Otherwise, we encourage you to have a read of your electrical specifications from your building company, so you have an idea of what they cover. Also have a think about where you might place furniture and where you will want light switches etc. We will guide you through the walk through but it’s always good to come prepared!

What happens if we make changes?

Most people do, which is why we take this opportunity to catch up with you and complete a walk through with you. Your building specifications don’t necessarily cover everyone’s individual tastes, so based on the outcome of your walk through we will note down anything you don’t require along with any additional requirements you have.

What if I want to supply some of my own gear?

That is absolutely fine, but please remember that all gear installed will need to conform with electrical regulations which is why we ask you bring those details with you at walk through time so we can go through these details with you.

What happens after the walk through?

We will update your electrical plan and prepare an “electrical extras” quote for you to review. Our quote will outline the changes (additions and deletions) discussed at walk through and your electrical plan will be updated to reflect these changes. We usually need to have your electrical extras quote finalized and accepted by you before we can begin the electrical pre-wire.
